Warning: After reading this blog and
watching the recommended video, you will not be able to put your
lashes on perfectly. Only with practice will mastery happen.
False lashes can be very hard to work
with. It can be difficult to place them. They peel at the edges. You
screw up your makeup....ahhhhhhhhhhh.
Here are some important tips and
guidelines:
Bend them and size them.:
Cut the lashes from the outer corner
to fit the size of your natural lash line. Also, bend the lashes to
loosen them up and make them more flexible. This helps with the edges
peeling up.
Let that glue get tacky!:
I like to use DUO clear eyelash glue.
When placing glue on the lash band, use a toothpick. Put a little
extra glue on the ends. Then let that sucker dry a bit. Don't rush
it. The glue will start to look less opaque white and form a tacky
barrier. If you do not wait for this, the lashes will not stick and
you will make a big mess. I like to wait about 60sec.
Start in the middle:
Place the middle of the false lashes above
the middle of your natural lash line. This will act like an anchor and free
up your hands to work the edges in to the inner and outer corner of
your eye. It's best to initially place the lashes with tweezers.
There are nifty tweezers out now that are designed for applying
lashes. I recently purchased one and have been pleased with it.
Starter Falsies:
Try to pick very light lashes with
flimsy bands. The thicker more plastic bands are actually hard to
work with. They are less forgiving, less comfortable, and have a
tendency to pull up at the edges. Pictured below is a starter kit I
recently purchased from Walmart for $8. It's made by Revlon and comes with the special
tweezers, nice starter lashes and glue. Unfortunately, it comes with
black glue. It's difficult to work with. Black glue can be nice to
cover up the sliver of skin between your natural and false lash line
but it's more intermediate/advance. I would still stick with the
clear DUO glue. It makes your mistakes less noticeable. You can find it by the false lashes in every makeup section in the U.S.
Finally:
For you visual learners, watch the
video linked below. It is fantastic! It's the video I first watched in 2010 when I
was trying to make falsies easier. It helped tremendously.

Hope this helps,
